Street Fighter IV National Tournament Coverage

Posted in Capcom, street fighter on April 24, 2009 by drtactix

Its been a while since the Gamestop and Capcom sponsored National Tournament was held last week, but the internet at my house is broken (along with my 360, but that’s another blog all together).  Luckily, I have a quick 45 minutes to blog during my office hours!

I was super stoked to go to this tournament, partly cause I love Capcom, and also because I love Street Fighter.  It was held at the Fort Mason Festival Pavilion in SF, which is a little off the beaten path.  I arrived a bit late, so when I got there, tons of people were already inside watching the Quarter-Finals take place.  It was held in the largest venue that I’ve seen for a gaming event so far, with lots of room for gaming kiosks and places to get free swag such as shirts and hats. Posted in Capcom, Xbox 360 on April 23, 2009 by drtactix

As seen on various gaming blog sites, the news that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be coming to XBLA and maybe PS3 has taken a HUGE turn.  Recently found on the internets is the website

Its a cryptic web address, that currently only has a countdown in front of the number 2.  What could the web address mean?

I’m going to TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE!!!!!

My pants are tight with anticipation.

Rumor: Marvel vrs Capcom 2 for XBLA??

Posted in AMAZING, Capcom, Rumor on April 17, 2009 by drtactix

Its something that I’ve been waiting for….my all time fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has been rumored to come to XBLA for a while.  And if the rumors are to be believed, this may be more true than we think.

On the Shoryuken boards, there is a list of screenshots that show MvC2 in on the XBLA blades. Link had a listing for a special Mad Catz MvC2 fighting stick with a description that was QUICKLY taken down. Link

There is now a list of achievements online for MvC2! Link

All this is starting to build up and get me sweating with excitement for the inevitable announcement, which, when it happens, I will cry tears of joy.

They will taste great.

FTW: Portrait of Ruin

It’s been a good long while since I’ve played a Castlevania game, but boy did it feel good to be back home.

Nothing too special in terms of the gameplay (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!) that Symphony of the Night mastered so well, but some neat additions such as being able to switch characters at will really brought the game into its own and lowered the Konami-is-milking-the-franchise complaints I had brewing in my head the first few minutes into the game.

Maybe something is wrong with me, but I feel nostalgic and a little more at peace every time I see a floating medusa head, and it just feels right.

Impressions: Resident Evil 5 “Versus” DLC

Posted in Uncategorized on April 8, 2009 by mornaur

I got a chance to play the new Versus mode introduced into Resident Evil 5 via the recently released DLC. Versus mode allows up to four players to compete against each other on multiple maps resembling areas within Resident Evil 5’s single player campaign. There are four rulesets that the players can play by, and these rulesets dictate win conditions, and how the games are setup. I only played a handful of games thus far, whenever I could squeeze in some time, but you can get the general idea of how things work as there’s not much variation between the different rulesets. Hit the jump for my impressions.

Resident Evil 5 “Versus” DLC releasing TOMORROW!

Posted in Resident Evil on April 6, 2009 by mornaur

To tie into my recent review of Resident Evil 5, I just found out that Capcom has announced that they are releasing a DLC April 7th. The DLC will add two modes: Survivor and Slayer. Survivor mode will pit players against each other, while Slayer mode will pit players against the Majini (and compete against each other score-wise). Both modes will be available in 1v1 or 2v2 format. The DLC shall cost 400 MS points ($5.00), so it’s definitely a bargain price.

This Versus DLC is the reason I bought RE5 soon after it was released at nearly full retail price. We’ll see how well Versus works with the control mechanics in RE5. It’s no secret that movement in RE5 is sort of clunky. I wonder if matchups will end up being two players standing in place shooting at each other, as I don’t really know how much advantage you can get through maneuvering.

I’ve been looking forward to this DLC, so I’ll reserve my opinions on it until I play it. Hoping to be playing this online tomorrow if I can get the chance. Jesse, hit me up for on this shit tomorrow!
